X-ray fluorescence analysis helps identify the elemental composition of any biological matrix in clinical chemistry, pharmaceutical production and life science research.

          X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry is a powerful tool for non-destructive element mapping of tissues and other biological matrices, such as in plants and insects, as well as engineered biomaterials.

          Latest developments make XRF suitable for the quantification of inorganic materials in clinical diagnostics, general medicine, orthopedics and implantology, pharmaceutical chemistry, biology and nanotoxicology.

          The M4 TORNADO Micro-XRF spectrometer offers extremely sensitive spatially resolved elemental distribution analysis from Na to U, while the M4 TORNADOPLUS extends the element range from C to Am. Both offer detection limits down to ppm, particularly for transition metals. The high-speed, "on-the-fly" mapping, with flexible analysis conditions, makes these spectrometers not only fast, but also able to quickly measure high detail, high quality spectral images. One of the major benefits is that no sample preparation is required.

          The M4 TORNADO and M4 TORNADOPLUS are ideally suited as pre-screening devices on large areas to allocate sections of interest where more complex methods like LA-ICP-MS shall be applied.


          The M4 TORNADO and M4 TORNADOPLUS use a variable pressure pump to aid light element detection and analysis from P to Na (M4 TORNADO) or C (M4 TORNADOPLUS). However, to measure hydrated specimens or oil, this instrument can also perform analysis at atmospheric pressure and is still able to measure elements from P to U, or be equipped with the optional computer controlled He-purge system to take advantage of the entire range of detectable elements down to C (for M4 TORNADOPLUS).

          The TXRF spectrometer S4 T-STAR offers lowest detection limits in the ppb range for the control of any element from Mg to U. Even a few μl or μg of blood, tissues or proteins can be measured quantitatively. The analysis can be started after a rapid sample preparation and all elements are accurately quantified without time-consuming daily calibrations. Automatic quality control procedures guarantee highest data quality during 24/7 operation.

          The S4 T-STAR is a compact plug and play system without need for gases, media or advanced lab infrastructure. Operation costs are negligible and basic user skills are sufficient.
